A lot of people think that architects are all "starving artists" or "mad geniuses." The truth is that being an architect can be a very profitable career. Being an architect requires a great deal of education and training, however.
The architect's role is to oversee the entire design process. This includes both the architectural design and the interior design, as well as all of the structural and environmental concerns. Because this is such a wide-ranging role, there are many different types of architects:
Landscape architects deal specifically with large outdoor environments such as parks and gardens.
Interior designers focus on smaller spaces within a building, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Architects can also work in construction to design buildings, furniture, and the overall layout of the space.

Historically, architecture was inseparable from religion. The first architects were priests working in temples and castles. Today, architecture encompasses all makes of buildings for all types of purposes. Modern architecture is divided into different categories according to function:
Residential Architecture includes everything from small apartments to large homes.
Commercial Architecture is used for public buildings such as banks or retail stores.
